Chapter 2017: “The Job”

“She doesn’t settle for less than her soul deserves and when she sets her sights on something she doesn’t stop dreaming until it’s true.” -Mark Anthony Poet

It’s December 2016 and I land an apartment in New York City. You would think that I would be thrilled, but the problem is that I still haven’t found a Job. I told the women that I am leasing from that I would move March 1st 2017. That gave me exactly 4 months to save up some money, find a job and move my things to New York City. I knew that I wanted to work in Fashion Tradeshows, so I began applying for Showroom Coordinators positions.

Prior to me landing the apartment, I had been doing a few phone interviews. The interviews would go good but once they found out that I would be relocating from San Francisco and had no permeant New York address, I would get the same reply, “Give me a call when you’re officially living in New York City.” That’s when I decided to find an apartment first then look for a job.

When I finally got the apartment that’s when the real job search began. I kept in touch with one of the showroom companies that really liked me but wouldn’t hire me because I wasn’t living in New York City. In January I had made a trip to New York to meet my roommate and go on some interviews. I met with the company that really liked me and they showed me around the showroom and told me that they could not guarantee that the position would be open come March. For some reason I had this gut feeling that the position was meant to be mine and it would still be open . I said this before and I’m going to say it again, when something is meant to be for you, nothing and no one will be able to take it away.

March comes around and next thing I know I’m on a plane heading to New York City with no job. My first week in the City I was super busy moving in and getting use to the hustle and bustle, finding a job completely slipped my mind. On my 5th day in New York I got a phone call from the Showroom I had been in contact with and I was asked to come in the next day for an interview. I show up to the interview and while I am waiting to be called in I tell myself that I am not leaving until I am offered the job on the spot. And that is exactly what happened. I sat in that interview room for over an hour going over just about anything and everything, I even showed him my blog lol. Finally, he ask me how much would it take to have me on board. We agreed on a salary and he offered me the position. At that moment I knew that everything was going to work out and that moving to New York was no mistake. It has been spoken over my life many times before that I am going to be very successful in the Fashion Industry and landing this position was the perfect stepping stone I needed.

I’ve been with the company for 9 months now and within my first few months they sent me to different Cities in the U.S to work the Fashion Tradeshows. Being sent around the U.S to work our shows felt like a small accomplishment because that is what I moved to New York City to do. As I am gaining more experience in the Industry my goals and dreams are getting bigger. I can’t say that I’ve made it career wise, but the ambition that I had to move to New York City and follow my dreams is the same ambition I will carry with me through out my career. This is only the first stepping stone in my career and I am excited for what the future has!

“As we drive along this road called life, occasionally a gal will find herself a little lost. And when that happens, I guess she has to let go of the coulda, shoulda, woulda, buckle up and just keep going. ” – Carrie Bradshaw

Where do I even begin? I believe the last time I post on my blog it was December of 2016 and I was still living back in San Francisco. Now fast forward to 9 months later and I am now living in New York City. So there is obviously a lot of ground to cover here. As you may know moving to New York City has always been a dream of mine, but it seem like a lot of work. The thought of packing up my bags and moving across the country to a place where I had no friends or family was not ideal. I mean moving to New York and possibly living that Carrie Bradshaw life seems like the dream but the reality of actually doing it, not so much. I felt like I was comfortable where I was at back home in San Francisco. Even though making a name for myself in the Fashion Industry was not going to happen , I was perfectly fine with that. I had my family, friends and a “Good Christian Man”. I mean, why would I leave?

I’ve always believed that what Is meant to be for you will always be yours and no one or nothing will be able to take that away. So when my relationship, job and basically my whole life started falling apart I had this feeling that it was time for change. Instead of sitting around and feeling sorry for myself I decided to pursue a dream of mine. I started looking into jobs and apartments in New York City since moving there and working in the Fashion Industry was something I was dreamed of. That’s when I learned that just when I thought my life was falling apart everything was actually coming together. I ended up getting an apartment in upper Manhattan and landed a job within the industry my first week living in New York City. I’ve been living in New York for 5 months now and I’m super thankful for all  the career opportunities and friendships that I’ve made so far. If there is one thing that I’ve learned through my move to New York it’s that, before something great happens sometimes your familiar life must crumble so that a new one can start.

I’m excited to start sharing every obstacle, success and lesson that I come across along my journey here in New York City with you guys. I hope that it not only inspires you but motivates you as well!

Hey Loves!

Back to dark hair I go. I had blonde hair for a little over 3 years now and I decided it was time to switch it up. At first I was hesitate about dying my hair darker. I was so use to my blonde hair I didn’t know if I wanted change. People usually avoid change and prefer to stay in their comfort zone, but I’m a true believer that once you get the courage and take the first step to change life will get much better (and I’m not just taking about my hair). Now, I’m really feeling myself with dark hair, don’t get me wrong I loved my blonde hair but dark makes me feel sophisticated. It’s almost like I’m discovering a new part of me.

With the new year just around the corner change has been on my mind.  We are often resistant to change and don’t realize that change it’s self is constant. Even if you are resistant or avoid it, it will eventually enter your life. But when you initiate change itself, it is much easier to adapt. One thing I love about change is the opportunities it brings. By changing the way you live your life, even in a small way, change will present opportunities that will have a domino affect, providing you with more choices then you have ever dreamed possible. If you have been contemplating change in your life, I suggest you take it because there is no better feeling then discovering what you are really capable of!

“Just like the sun you spread warmth and inspire life. Just by being you!”

Every women should have a fabulous faux fur coat in their wardrobe! I started to re watch the Sex In The City series and found myself once again finding style inspiration in every episode. With winter approaching I absolutely love how Carrie Bradshaw had a fur coat that went with everything. Whether she was heading to have cocktails with the girls or grabbing a cup of coffee in the morning, I love how she was able to throw on a fur coat with every outfit to chic it up. I found myself in search of the perfect faux fur coat. I came across this cropped faux fur coat at Banana Republic during their Black Friday sale. For this look I decided to give off a casual vibe. Pairing a fur coat with denim, booties and a basic is the ultimate casual way to style a faux fur coat. It adds instant glam to such a basic look! Below are more phots of my look. Hope you enjoy!

Burgundy Obsessed

Heels: Banana Republic

“Life isn’t about finding yourself, Life is about creating yourself.”

Hey Loves!

Does anyone else obsess over the color burgundy this time of year? I know I do.

On my way to work today I couldn’t help but notice all the Christmas decorations going up in the Financial District of San Francisco. I couldn’t help but think how another year has gone by. As each year goes by I feel like there is still so much that I want to accomplish. Sometimes I need to remind myself to slow down and enjoy everything that I have accomplished thus far. Though at times it may feel like it is not enough, when I look back at the person I use to be I realize that I have achieved some much more and I am loving the women I am becoming!

As you guys may know I just started a new job. Unlike my last position as a Visual Merchandiser, I sit at a desk all day. During my down time I love to surf the web in which I recently (a few months ago) came across a online store called Miss Guided. I’m obsessed! I love how their style can easily take you from a day at work to cocktails without looking like you came straight from the office. I had bought the dress that I’m wearing in this look in black and fell in love with it. When I found out that they also sold it in burgundy I had to buy it. This dress is so simple and can be easily dressed up or down for any occasion. I actually wore this look today to work  and I love how the dress goes pass the knee making it work appropriate. Below are more photos of this look.

Fallin’ for Fall

Blazer: Banana Republic
Denim Dress: Banana Republic

Hey Loves!

“The secret of change is to focus all your energy, not on fighting the old but building the new.” -socrates

Fall is finally here and I couldn’t be anymore excited. I did some shopping this past week and I couldn’t help but notice all the fall styles that are officially out in stores. On my shopping list was a pair of burgundy booties and I found the perfect pair at Zara. These booties featured in this look are super sleek and chic. I can wear them with just about anything. I also love how they have a sliver heel. I don’t know about you guys but a sliver jewelry kind of girl so these burgundy booties were a must!

I know that I was M.I.A from my blog for a while but that was because I was in the middle of starting a new position at one of my favorite retail store’s corporate offices. Now that I am official back in the groove of things, I will be blogging a lot more. To kick things off I wanted to share with you guys this fall look I put together. I paired my denim dress that I bought during the summer ( I like to buy pieces that can easily transition from season to season) and paired it with a cream and black tribal blazer. I added s statement necklace for some fun and topped off the whole look with my burgundy booties and a burgundy lip. Below are some more pictures of my look. Enjoy!

The San Francisco Uniform

Leather Jacket: American Eagle
Top: Nina’s
Jeans: Banana Republic
Booties: Target

Hey loves!

Such skimpy apparel doesn’t meet San Francisco’s style standards. For starters, the weather is so unpredictable year round. People who have never been to San Francisco might imagine it to be like the rest of California: warm and sunny all year. But think again. Since San Francisco is located on the bay, it gets brutal wind that keeps temperatures low, despite sunny days.

For the most part, the city’s style can often be pretty laid back. Even at nicer restaurants in San Francisco, you can get away with a pair of skinny jeans and a nice top. My go to outfit for just about everything is a pair of jeans with a nice blouse, a chunky sweater (if it’s cold out), a leather jacket, and ankle booties. Add a scarf if it’s extra chilly or a statement necklace if it’s not. I like to call this the San Francisco uniform, because you can catch just about any women from any age group sporting this look year round. In the summer I like to substitute my casual black leather jacket for a vibrant color, while still remaining warm enough for San Francisco’s unpredictable weather. Below are some more photos of my look, enjoy!
